Toastmasters International is a worldwide non-profit organisation devoted to public speaking. The organisation has 280,000 members spread across 13,500 clubs in over 100 countries and provides a structured and enjoyable way for people to practice and improve their communication and leadership skills.

Toastmasters clubs meet on a regular basis (typically two or three times per month for a couple of hours) to give members an opportunity to put their skills into practice. There is no instructor – constructive feedback is provided by other members with emphasis on what was done well but also touching upon areas that could be improved.  This feedback process is an essential part of the club program.

Our meetings offer the opportunity for participants to hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly atmosphere.

Members may opt to have a mentor – usually a more experienced member of the same club – who provides advice, encouragement and support.

Each meeting comprises two parts:

  1. Table Topics – The Table Topics Master announces a topic and calls upon participants to give an impromptu response on that topic for 1 – 2 mins.  This is a great way to learn how to think on your feet.
  2. Prepared Speeches – Over several meetings, members work through the Communication Manual, which consists of 10 self paced speech projects designed to focus on areas such as structure, vocal variety, gestures and much more.

In addition to regular meetings there are special workshops, competitions, and other events organised throughout the year.
